i really do love photographing chris totten. i think it's the combination of the way he dresses and his facial expressions along with his total comfort in front of the camera. whatever it is, he somehow always manages to pull off this very film noir, 1950s detective look without even trying. here he is in the subway up in new york over new year's. i'll sure miss him if he moves away (and for reasons more than how photogenic he is).

if you're interested in indie film, or have ever been confused as to what that term actually means and what makes a film "indie," check out this piece in the NYT today. it's about the recent development of "indie" divisions cropping up in most of the major studios today and what it means for the future of filmmaking.
so...chris is moving too?
where? is he following his brothers?
even though i was not particularly great friends with the totten brothers, i must say they're parting from chattanooga is sad. it seems to be the beginning, also, of a lot of people moving on from here...
i went into a store the other day and the display had totally ripped chris off. old pin stripe suit with a v-neck sweater and t shirt, even sneakers and the hat. i had to do a double take to make sure you all didn't leave him here...
nice shot andy.
This is a great photo of Chris--I prefer the b&w, non-digital pics, Andy. Also, I agree with Bethany, this seems to be a time of transition for those of us in Chattanooga (and those who have recently left). Things are already beginning to look/feel different without Ben & Anna, and now David & John. It is kind of sad, but inspiring at the same time.

Posted by: jerah at January 21, 2005 04:56 PMThat's wierd Anna, I'm with a guy right now that looks just like this Chris guy too. Uncanny, actually. I guess this look is just in.
Posted by: John Totten at January 21, 2005 06:54 PMGREAT shot.
Posted by: Nick at January 23, 2005 07:32 PMHe has sort of an Adrian Brody feel to him... not sure why.
Posted by: holton at January 24, 2005 10:45 PMMaybe it's an ethnic thing. Come to think of it, why can't I look like Adrian Brody?
