old ymca

some of you current or ex-chattanoogans will probably recognize this doorway. it's the men's entrance (obviously) to the old YMCA on mitchell street. the funny part is that about 10 yards to the left is the "boy's" entrance which is a bit smaller and less imposing. as you might expect, there's no women's or girl's entrance.

...

mesh is finally getting some national coverage for his mad writing skillz... check out his piece in the latest issue of the simon.

oh, and if you liked that magneta lane mp3 last week, there's another one over on music for robots.

FYI: The building also was used as the New City church building as well, before we moved to the one we are in now.

Andy that is almost the exact picture we used on the cover of our first Urban Achievers album.

Yes I have many memories of the old Y. I'm not sure if the iron thingys that are underneath the windows are still there, but they made for a child's 'monkey bars' in our ghetto feel of a church back in the mid 80's. That place was flippin' cold in the winter too! The women of the church used to bring extra blankets, the whole congregation would be bundled up.

Nice memory Andy, thanks!
