more birthdays

in looking over the last few months of blogging i'm realizing how much effort my friends and i put into celebrating birthdays. it seems most of the occasions for gathering a group together of late are driven by a desire to remember someone's birth. well, that or we're always on the lookout for a reason to party... either way, we celebrated john totten's 22nd this weekend, and i took way too many pictures. so many that i'm tempted to use them all week long, but i'll probably just end up tossing them in here and there. here's the birthday boy with his birthday "cake."

...

kill bill 2 was fantastic. 2 thumbs up, and tarantino has effectively redeemed himself in my book. granted, its no pulp fiction or reservoir dogs, but it definitely brings some perspective to the first film and resurrects the wit and complexity that i've so enjoyed in his earlier films.

on sunday, the deMarcos and emily and i took the self-guided walking tour of downtown living that the downtown partnership puts on; and i am again reminded of the fact that i've been blogging for over a year.

Andy, thank you for finally putting me on your blog. This is a big day for me...

If you crop this picture off at the right place, it is called "Josiah Battles the Giant Birthday Cookie."

It also kinda looks like I'm about to deliver a right hook to the jaw of my wife...

Posted by: JosiahQ at April 19, 2004 03:04 PM

Yeah!! I also finally made the photoblog!

My question is, who is this Emily of which you speak? Do you two take self-guided tours often? What exactly does that look like?

...Hmmm...

Woh! Zing! Mark one for April! That's gotta hurt!

Another great photo.

I always seem to say the same sort of thing on here. Maybe if your pictures weren't so lovely, I would come up with new material.

I haven't seen the first Kill Bill. Is it super violent? I don't dig the violence. But if it's funny enough, I might deal. I should get over this already.

Talking about birthday celebrations...Can I take the oppurtunity to announce Tommy's upcoming birthday party on you blog? It will be on Friday, April 30th...and if we want another reason to throw a party(besides for birthdays), someone can throw me a party for being half way done with my masters program.

or me for being all the way done with college

Rumor has it that a way cool four-band musicstravaganza is in the works for May 8, possibly at Lamar's. It shall honor Totten, myself, and those other brave souls who are graduating this year. Details soon...

Posted by: mesh at April 20, 2004 01:03 PM

i know it is a lot to ask, but what if you all made it a bit later than may 8? then maybe I could come too...

Posted by: meg at April 20, 2004 02:05 PM

I think we're kinda stuck on that date. Too many folks already committed. But what if we hold ANOTHER party when you get back in town? :)

Posted by: mesh at April 20, 2004 02:12 PM

can i take the opportunity to announce my own birthday, which was april tenth? and that every single "friend" i have forgot it. ass clowns.

Posted by: anna at April 20, 2004 07:16 PM

Thats not true Anna. Thats a lie. You pranked called me at 3 in the morning and I said how much I loved you and was glad you were born on april tenth because you are a beautiful person. Maybe I was wrong.

Posted by: john totten at April 20, 2004 11:38 PM

sorry john, i forgot. it was late late and we'd been driving and were still so far away that everything was like this dream with paula abdul and chistmas songs and your birthday wishes got caught up in it. please forgive me, you're my only friend (obviously).

Posted by: anna at April 21, 2004 12:50 PM

hey anna, can i be off the hook too? i do live in montana after all...
i love you.

Posted by: meg at April 21, 2004 02:30 PM

i think we should all be off the hook because anna left town the night before her birthday, and didn't even tell us that it was the next day. (well, at least she didn't tell me.) but whatever... i wish i'd known, and i wish we'd celebrated, my dear kumquat.

Posted by: andy at April 21, 2004 02:35 PM

Anna, You know that you are loved deeply by all of us. Sometimes we can be pretty fuzzy on the details... that's all... We all have excuses but none of them are that great. Just know that I love you. OK?

Posted by: charity at April 21, 2004 03:17 PM

i've shed my last tear about it. you're all forgiven and loved. miss you all. be home sooner rather than later. i know i keep saying that but i really mean it.

Posted by: anna at April 21, 2004 07:28 PM

Just to let everyone off the hook. I tried to tell everyone it was Anna's Birthday the night before she left...she just got pissy with me and told me to shut up. (I guess then, it's my fault for not trying harder...sorry Anna)

Posted by: Kiko at April 21, 2004 11:37 PM

The point remains- I told Anna happy birthday on April 10th. Let's not forget that. Then Anna told me happy birthday on the phone on MY birthday, and then she said "Huffine". That's right, she said "Happy Birthday Huffine" Not only did she think that it was Huffine's birthday, she thought she was talking to him. I guess that's what happens when so many people are named John or derrivitaves of John. It was cute.

Posted by: John Totten at April 22, 2004 12:09 AM

Who the heck is Andy calling "his dear kumquat"?

Posted by: JosiahQ at April 22, 2004 08:20 AM

Huffine. I think.

Posted by: mesh at April 22, 2004 10:37 AM

kiko, lest you forget there is a mighty difference between having the folks at taco smack sing you happy birthday accompanied by a free shot of jager, and having your friends call and tell you they're glad you were born.
p.s. i'm always pissy...

Posted by: Anna at April 22, 2004 12:51 PM

which one? there's tons, and there's more on the way...

Posted by: JosiahQ at April 22, 2004 01:25 PM

The cool one.
