the elf power show last night was no disappointment. i would say that it was well worth the $5 cover charge, but then, i was on assignment for the pulse and didn't have to pay the cover (thanks bill - i'll have those photos in later today). its also the first assignment i've covered with the new camera and, as i expected, digital is definitely the way to go when it comes to photojournalism. no trips to the camera shop, no waiting for development, no faxing receipts to clients. if i could quantify quality-of-life this thing would have itself paid for in no time.
...
a couple things...
bush gave a press conference last night that was broadcast on public radio. (you can listen to it all here.) its his first in 13 months, and i can understand why. the media peppered him with difficult questions which he handled as best he could. i can't say that i was completely satisfied with his justifications and rationale for certain actions, but his candid nature is pretty disarming. i have to admit that it certainly makes me want to believe him, and regardless of whether he's delusional or not, he is convinced of what he believes and is unafraid to act on those beliefs.
a-year-ago-today: i recently realized that i've been blogging for over a year now. this is surprising to me, as i thought it might not last more than a few weeks. in honor of this fact, here's last year's april 14th entry.
Posted by andy at April 14, 2004 10:24 AMActually Andy, I kinda haggled our way into that show. But they should know who we are by now right?
Posted by: john totten at April 14, 2004 12:30 PMi love me some elf power!! got to see them last year in orlando, a very nice show.
Posted by: cannon at April 14, 2004 12:51 PMThe media's only purpose last night was to get Bush to say "I made a mistake when I..." so that Kerry could use it to help HIS campaign.
Posted by: bill colrus at April 14, 2004 01:35 PMI'm voting for Abraham Lincoln this year. Sure, it's a throwaway vote, but I figure if enough people vote, he might have a shot.
Posted by: bill colrus at April 14, 2004 03:45 PMI'm voting for Bush because, you know, we're Americans and we have a responsibility to keep up that whole American ethos thing, like the British electing people who are self-loathing. That's Tony Blair's problem, he doesn't hate himself enough so he isn't very popular with the British populace.
Posted by: JosiahQ at April 14, 2004 03:55 PMI could be Britain's PM!
And Bill, please tell me that the "Abe Lincoln has a shot" pun was intentional.
Posted by: mesh at April 14, 2004 03:57 PMthats toooo funny. this "mesh" boy's a sharp tack
Posted by: cannon at April 14, 2004 05:06 PMWhat do y'all think the chances of the ballots having a "none of the above" choice this year are. Then I might consider voting.
Posted by: John Totten at April 14, 2004 05:31 PMMebbe we should write in Kevin Bevil....
Posted by: JosiahQ at April 14, 2004 06:54 PMI'm not prepared to handle all the notoriety should he win.
Posted by: Kevin at April 15, 2004 04:47 AMYes, the pun was intentional. It comes from "Bill's Big Book of Assasination-Related Puns."
Posted by: Bill Colrus at April 15, 2004 11:31 AMI'll bet there are some real side-splitters in there about McKinley.
Posted by: mesh at April 15, 2004 12:09 PMYou don't happen to have any photos of the first band, zumm zumm (I think?). The ones with all the colors. I couldn't stay for Elf Power due to an early meeting but liked the first band a lot.
Posted by: Adam at April 15, 2004 03:21 PMsorry Adam, i didn't start shooting until elf power came on. but i agree, zumm zumm was quite good, and all those colors would have made for nice photos.
Posted by: andy at April 15, 2004 04:18 PMActually, that was de novo dahl. with all the colors. zumm zumm was the second, weaker band.
Posted by: john totten at April 15, 2004 05:21 PMWeaker, but louder. With big screaming. And a tuba.
Posted by: mesh at April 15, 2004 06:10 PMActually, that horn is called a baritone horn. Tubas are much bigger.
Posted by: John Totten at April 15, 2004 08:30 PMSee, this is why you're the Pulse music editor, and I sit beside you and give you smokes.
Posted by: mesh at April 16, 2004 02:27 AMim voting for harry potter!!!
Posted by: coneitia at June 8, 2004 01:00 PMi think it's only when presidents die they begin to be appreciated, look at ronnie.
his day's finally come, but where was all the gushing when he was running the country & his mind & body were in tact?
well okay fine, just his body, but one out of two ain't bad
my friend's theory is that clinton getting blown in the oval office was good for the economy – the more he got off the more people went out & bought useless consumer goods they didn’t need
she thinks bush not getting his rocks off is hurting the economy
hmm, well it’s HER theory, don’t shoot the messenger
Posted by: toejoe at June 9, 2004 02:27 PMOmg thats right! Please come see me and my friends! ;)
