as most anyone who is gainfully employed, or gainfully UNemplyoyed as it were, is well aware, tax day is right around the corner. i've been putting off dealing with mine for weeks, not wanting to drop the $60 on tax software for my iBook (software selection, one of the few drawbacks of macs). finally yesterday i decided, for a mere $20 more, to just give all my paperwork to the friendly people over at H & R Block and let them deal with it. i thought, you know, i'll get a pretty big kickback this year... what's another $20 to me? well, as it turns out, uncle sam's getting a nice little kickback from me this year. evidently i'm filed incorrectly with my company somehow and not nearly enough taxes were deducted from my paychecks over the past year. this, of course, was fun while it lasted, but now i'm in the hole to the guv'na some $600, not to mention the capital gains taxes i've yet to finish tallying. suffice to say the unpleasant surprise i received this morning with the Block people ranks up there with the day i found out the passat has a junk title...
...
on a better note, there's an outdoor good friday service this evening with Rock Creek Fellowship, complete with an easter baptism (who said presbyterians don't know how to have fun?). and tomorrow morris, mesh, and i are heading down to atlanta to celebrate tim's birthday. dinner, drinks, and celebration, no doubt, will be in order.
Posted by andy at April 9, 2004 03:54 PMI am so not looking forward to my meeting tomorrow. :[ Dreadful tax time. I must buy some pepto to celebrate this year's outcome.
Posted by: mihow at April 10, 2004 06:39 PMouch. if you have your paperwork together, I highly recommend turbotax online. it holds your hand through every step. only $20.
Posted by: bobw at April 11, 2004 07:17 PMif anyone is considering being unemployed, you should know--i learned this past year of another way to get in the hole with the govt--spend any time getting unemployment benefits, and it will bite you back, as it's taxable income, with nothing taken out . . . another case in which it was fun while it lasted :)
Posted by: anna at April 12, 2004 01:14 PMYou poor gal. I'm so sorry. I had no idea.
