karaoke

that's pronouced ka-da-OH-kay according to morris...

a few weeks ago on a friday night at the safari pub mesh, morris, josiah, ben, beck, and i took a shot at rockstardom...

Actually, the second syllable is, of course, a Japanese RA, which is like a "half-rolled" 'R' (with "ah" vowel) and often comes out sounding like a "flapped" 'D' in native speakers.

Also, the RA and the OH technically form a dipthong... so together they form one (longish) syllable.

Unless I'm mistaken, Morris and I went to karaoke in Japan when I knew him there (back when he was in junior high school).

You've got a good description of the pronunciation of "ra".
